This is the 3rd book in the White Flag of the Dead Series.Books 1 and 2 are excellent, focusing on the zombie outbreak, initial survival, forming a base with other survivors, and then eventually pushing out to live in small zombie free areas and linking up with other surviving communities.
The central character in these books is John Talon, former school administrator, widower, father of an infant and reluctant zombie fighter. He struggles to keep his son alive, lead others, while looking towards the future to hand a world to his son that won't be just surviving.
The 3rd book picks up after about 2 years after the Upheaval. John and his friends and family are doing well, living in a former state park lodge. But trouble is coming. He finds out a fake major has set up a kingdom in California, using brutal tactics to enslave other survivors. This Major gets it in his head that if he destroys the Constitution and Bill of Rights, this notion of Freedom will end and he'll have no more trouble from his slaves. John hears of his plans and vows to stop him.
He races to Washington, DC to beat the Major there, and protect the documents of our country, in the hopes of re-establishing the country again soon. There is numerous zombie conflicts, and conflicts with the Major's troops.
The story is good, but my biggest complaint is that John is now much too Rambo like. No matter how many enemies he faces, zombie or human, he whips them all pretty easily.
This book is not the end to the story. His race to Washington and efforts to stop the Major and restore the USA will be continued in at least 1 more book, hopefully due out soon.

Our family is highly impressed with the first two books in the series. My husband bought the first book ONLY because it was so cheap, expecting very little by way of content. He was so wrong! He loved it, I loved it, and our older teens loved it, too (boys, not easily impressed or enthusiastic about ANYTHING we suggest)!
Anyhow, as an avid reader, I have to say that this really is a great series so far. Haven't liked any zombie books since World War Z, but Talluto has (happily) surprised us all.
Think descriptive style of World War Z meets solid storyline of Plague of the Dead.

This is the third book and I love this series and will look for this author in the future. The characters and settings are well developed and explored. Action and adventure keeps coming at you without the boring time wasting of some books. Each book builds upon the last in a sensible progression. Each book has a complete story arc and ends while leaving you wanting to read the next one. The editing, spelling, grammar, and flow was smooth as I have seen in most professionally produced books. I wish that other books produced on were this good.
I have stayed up far too late several nights reading this book. Having read all previous books in this series, I enjoyed this book the most. Having both perspectives, good AND evil, has been fantastic! The author's ability to make the characters stand out really shines here. I actually laughed so much at one comment that I woke my wife up haha... (No spoilers in this review, tho...). If you like zombie novels, this is a must have. It could stand alone, but the preceding books were good, too, so why not enjoy the full series. Plus, the price was great, too... No $12 Dean Koontz book price here but plenty of suspense and action, along with occasional, well placed humor. Buy it!
John and Jake Tallon is one super father/son team. From White Flag of The Dead - Book 1" to this one, you don't want to stop. All they come up against they never back down. Like I said, a different kind of Zombie Series that leaves you wanting more. You will so love how they try to take back America, and all the hardships they go through. But one thing for sure, it keep you rooting for them, and hoping they can make even against the odds they face. I so believe they will. So to all, start this series now.
Finally finished the White Flag of the Dead 6-book series. I was planning to review each book as I read it but to be honest as soon as I finished one book I immediately started the next one. I couldn't stop reading. This series is amazing and I was hooked from the very first book. I love all the characters and laughed, cheered and cried for and with them all. I am looking forward to reading the new Generation Dead which I already got ready on page 1 on my to read but I'm taking a breather to write this review. Although I am copying for each book they are all great books. I had no problem with the time gap between some of the books. Just made it more interesting although I am very curious about Denver now. I hope Joseph Talluto keeps writing because I am addicted to his books. If you like zombie books you will love these!
America The Dead (White Flag of the Dead Series)This is still a really good read.
Not only does John and his crew have to contend with the Enillo virus, the zombies and re-setting up the world now he has wife and a truely evil enemy who would like to destroy him by taking down his friends and family.
This book continues where book 2 left off which is a good thing. It has all of the things that made 1 & 2 good reads and more because the friendships over the past 3-4 years have deepened, John has more family and love in his life. Now he has to go to DC and defend and protect all the documents our founding fathers worked and fought for. Can he do it without losing the new and somewhat secluded home that holds his heart? Can him and his boys enter the nations capitol, do what they came for and still get out with their lives?
On the way he feels the need for closure regarding part of his family. At one point there is a bearded man on the docks in the Florida Keys, is that who I think it is Mr. Talluto? (Sorry I guess I am getting too close to making this a spoiler and I really do hate those spoiler reviews)
I really enjoyed this book, I don't think you even have to be into sci-fi to enjoy this series. I never even read anything remotely like this genre until I got my KF. It is just a good story, Joseph Talluto is a good storyteller. READ THIS, YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU DID.
